About the I-Maniacs

The unofficial fan club of "The Invisible Man" sprang to life when R2 & Helena formed the club in June/July 2000 because of their love for the show, and it was a way to build a fan base from the online bboard and chat community. They also thought it would be fun if members of the bboard and chat room could get together and meet face to face.

In early 2001, when they heard that Sci Fi Channel was going to have a booth at Comic Con and the cast might be attending, they started talking in the chat room about going out to San Diego for the con. At that point, they started organizing the I-Maniac events around the con, which were attended by 50 – 60 I-Maniacs.

Writer Extraordinaire, Craig Silverstein, was the person who christened the club the I-Maniacs during the opening of his first chat at Scifi.com on August 29, 2000. When he was welcomed to the chat he greeted the fans with a hearty, "Hello all you I-Maniacs!"

In early 2001, the fan club was growing so large, R2 decided that she need help running the fan club. So she created the I-Maniac Board of Directors. They were a group of fans, that had been with her since the beginning, who had been offering her advice and giving their time and effort in order to help her run things a bit more smoothly.

As a service to our members, we have created and sold I-Man themed merchandise. We have also hosted several exclusive chats with cast members for the fan club. We hosted several events in San Diego at Comic Con 2001, including the 1st Annual I-Maniacs Dinner at Planet Hollywood. The wonderful Mike McCafferty and his lovely wife, Sarah, joined us for a fun-filled evening.

In October 2001, we raised enough money among the fan club members to pay for ads in the East Coast and West Coast editions of "Daily Variety," as part of our campaign to save our show. We also raised an additional $500, which we donated to the American Red Cross to be used for victims of the 9/11/2001 tragedy.

In April 2002, we sponsored the first I-ManiCon.  Sixty fans gathered in Baltimore, Maryland to greet series star Mike McCafferty and guests. After much voting by the fans, it was agreed that the second I-ManiCon would be held in Chicago, Illinois in October 2003. Mike again attended, posed for pictures, gave autographs, and chatted with fans. We sponsored our third I-ManiCon in Los Angeles, California, on 7/9/05.  Eddie Jones and Paul Ben-Victor attended.  Our fourth I-ManiCon will also be in Los Angeles on 7/15/06, and Vincent Ventresca, Paul Ben-Victor, Eddie Jones, and Mike McCafferty are expected to attend.

In August 2002, we sponsored a trip to see Eddie Jones in “Death of a Salesman” and he graciously agreed to a “meet and greet” afterwards. We also arranged to meet with Paul Ben-Victor for a private meeting later that night. Mike McCafferty came to our annual dinner. All three actors posed for pictures and gave out autographs.
